On July 1, 2018 Gerry Shannon officially retired from pastoring New Harvest Church. He and Sylvia had been faithful servants for 25 years, but God had a new assignment for them. For two and a half decades, Gerry and Sylvia loved and encouraged each and every soul that walked thru the doors of their church. They taught, by example, what family looked like and New Harvest grew to be a place that welcomes everyone with hearts open wide. And as this chapter closed, with grace, dignity and the heart of a servant, they turned the church over to Mark Hoffman. Gerry and Sylvia, you showed us Jesus. You showed us what it's really like to be a part of His family. We will always be grateful for that. And we will always love you both for your generous spirits and hearts filled with love. God bless you richly as you transition to the next chapter of your journey.
Women's Ministry Retreat
For our second retreat, we returned to the beach! We were blessed to find a reasonably priced house right on the beach and in the heart of OBX. We had a wonderful time, made lots of memories and explored Sisterhood. Recognizing that we are part of a global sisterhood made up of all denominations, races and ethnic backgrounds- believers and unbelievers alike- we stand in the gap for each other when we drop our sword and seek to find our lost sisters and love them into the kingdom of God. We are a tender, strong, victorious army. Gather yourself together in troops, O daughter of troops. ( Micah 5:1)
Gerry and Sylvia and Costa Rica!
March 4, 2018 was Gerry's and Sylvia's last Sunday with us before leaving for Costa Rica for 3 months. God made it plain that He has some wonderful adventures prepared for them when they get there. We will miss them terribly and wanted to make sure they were blessed before taking off. Many thanks to all who came and showed their love and support for our Pastor and First Lady.
On Saturday, November, 2017, New Harvest held it's first Women's Conference. Although this was a women's conference, men were encouraged to attend to hear what God was saying to His daughters- to their wives, daughters, sisters and mothers. The focus was the role of women in the church today. We'd like to extend a special THANK YOU! to Christy Wilkinson for the great photography work. Christy, you're a real blessing and we love you lots!
Pastor Appreciation Month
Over the course of the month of October, we've tried to show Pastor Gerry and First Lady Sylvia how much they mean to us. They've given so much of themselves and their time over the years and we'll never be able to accurately express our love and appreciation, but we hope they've felt our heart for them this month. On Friday the 13th, we had a fish fry for them and everyone had a great time. Love you guys more and more every day, Pastor and First Lady!
Sock Hop Fundraiser
On May 6, 2017, we held a sock hop fundraiser for one of our own- Jay Wilkinson. Jay was going on a missions trip with the Burn Wagon in June and we wanted to support him and encourage him. The fundraiser was headed up by Barb Whear, with lots of help from the rest of Jay's church family. There were prizes for the best dancer along with the best costume. Additionally, over 25 items were donated as part of a raffle. Everyone had a great time and Jay was blessed! Thanks to all who helped and to all who joined us for the fun! Ladies' Retreat - April 20-23, 2017
This was a first for our Women's Ministry- a ladies' retreat to Corolla, NC. We had such a great time that it, definitely, won't be our last! We laughed, we played, we shopped and we shared. Our focus for the weekend was inspired by MercyMe's song, Beautiful. Our Father loves us so much and sees such value in us and He wanted to share that with us so that we might have a better understanding of who we really are and that it's okay to see ourselves as having tremendous value in the eyes of the Creator of the Universe. Click on the pictures to see the full image and know that, as much as He loves us, He loves you, too!
Installation of Mark Hoffman as Elder - April 2, 2017
Sunday, April 2, 2017, Mark Hoffman was installed as our newest elder. Mark has been involved in a number of ministries over the years, including Mothers Incorporated, The Fire Escape (formerly in Virginia Beach) and music ministry at several churches. He is, also, a big part of our Media Team and has a heart to mentor young people, particularly in the area of raising them up to be leaders in the church. We are very excited about Mark being a part of the leadership at New Harvest. At the end of the service we took time to pray for Pastor Gerry and Sylvia before they departed for Costa Rica.
Sunday, Nov 6, our youth led us in praise and worship of our King, served communion and shared a message
with the congregation. For our communion service, we were offered animal crackers and juice boxes- a break
from tradition, but offered with a pure heart, showing that it isn't the elements that are used, but the heart from
which they're offered. We love our youth, we love how the love Jesus and we love the lessons they shared with us.
Wedding of Serena St Peter to Chris Sawyer
Following our youth service was the wedding of two of our members, Serena St Peter and Chris Sawyer. It was a
wonderful service and a privilege to celebrate their wedding with them.

Esther Company - Ladies' Brunch 5/14/16
We had a great time at our Ladies' Brunch! The food, the fellowship, the craft time were all great- lots of love and laughter! Barb had us all in stitches and Gerry (a new addition to our family at New Harvest) was a great help. What a terrific group of ladies!
